Romans 14
February 25, 2008
5 :: Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
7-8 :: For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
10 :: You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
17-18 :: the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.
The message of Romans 14 goes out to all you who think you are spiritually mature. Here we see that God puts a burden on those who see themselves to be mature. IF you think you are mature then it is your responsibility to assure that you don’t cause your brother to stumble or fall. In other words, maturity is a matter of selflessness and looking out for others, not how much you do this or that or how much you avoid doing this or that. It’s a matter of how much you love your brother and sister in Christ. Do you love enough to put yourself and your own desires aside so that others can grow and mature? Does your life promote an atmosphere free of fear and judgment so that others are free to openly wrestle with their struggles?
